Work Experience

Professor, RCEES, Chinese Academy of SciencesBeijing, China(11/2007 – Present) Managed and executed multiple research projects dealing with environmental science and emerging environmental nanotechnology using my in-depth knowledge of aquatic chemistry, environmental surface chemistry, self-motivation and the ability to motivate the research team.

 Developed nanotechnology-based environmental sensors through an improved understanding of the surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) enhancement mechanisms and appropriate experimental design.


Research Assistant Professor  (5/05-11/07)
Investigated the fate and transport of environmentally significant trace metals through the use of surface complexation model, ab initio Molecular Orbital/Density Function Theory (MO/DFT) calculations, and extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy. The results have been published in leading peer-reviewed environmental journals, and been selected as Science Highlight by National Synchrotron Light Source (http://www.nsls.bnl.gov/newsroom/science/2005/11-Jing.htm).

Studied biogeochemical cycling of arsenic and its re-mobilization mechanisms under landfill reducing conditions using incubation tests, speciation analysis in aqueous and solid phases, and thermodynamic modeling.


Postdoctoral Research Associate (6/02-4/05)
​ Studied the process and mechanisms of arsenic water treatment using an innovative adsorptive filtration with nanomaterial-based adsorbent.

 Investigated the environmental availability and transformations of redox-sensitive elements including arsenic and chromium.


Graduate Research Assistant (9/98-5/02)
Conducted and completed various research projects including evaluation of numerous leaching tests involving heavy metal contaminated soil matrices treated with solidification/stabilization (s/s) technologies; arsenic groundwater treatment in Hopewell, New Jersey, and Boca Raton, Florida; and arsenic groundwater treatment in Bangladesh.
